Recap of the Sand Hollow Event

Welcome Aboard,

Friday May 5^th kicked off the 2006 tournament trail for the youth of the Utah Bass Federation. The tournament was kick started with a meeting Friday night at the Crystal Inn in St. George at 6 p.m. Several donations from local sponsors including Sportsman’s Warehouse, local bait producer James Bradshaw of Maniac Custom Lures, Fish Hedz, Airrus Rods, Bi Water, Fish Tech, Cabelas, and Stockton Malone Honda were distributed amongst the youth to help light the fire of excitement and bring smiles to all.

Saturday morning the kids started fishing the tournament at Sand Hollow with Mandy Dolan jumping out in the lead for the 11 to 14 age group with just 3 oz short of ten pounds and Travis Richardson following in close second with over eight and a half pounds. For the older group age 15 to 18 was Casey Storey, returning champ pulling in fourteen and a half pounds with Markus Schutte right on his heels bringing in thirteen pounds eleven ounces. Weather conditions were fantastic and some kids really focused on the fish that were moving in to bed.

Sunday day two, weather conditions were even better with much calmer water allowing kids to work the bedded fish with more intense focus. Zach Alexander returning champ for the 11 to 14 age group, was holding close starting the day in third place but blew this event wide open by hauling in the biggest sack in Utah history with 15 pounds even. Zach finished with a total weight of twenty three pounds three ounces with Justin Elnicky and Mandy Dolan following up with 2^nd and 3^rd place. Casey Storey, “Mr. Consistency”, held on to his lead by bringing in another eleven and a half pound sack with Markus Schutte and Sonny Hawk bringing in 2^nd and 3^rd place.

This first qualifier was a thriller, and a big round of “Thank You” goes out to all the sponsors again for taking care of our youth. A “Special Thanks” as well goes out to the bass fisherman of Southern Utah who provided boats and time out of their busy schedules to be with our youth. We look forward to another year of fun and excitement and can’t wait to see you all at the next qualifier June 10^th at Pelican Lake.
